Welcome
to TOM’S THAILAND SHELLS
The
shells you will find listed when you make your selection
of lists are specimens that I have accumulated over the
past 50+ years either by self collecting, trading or buying
as I traveled around the world. Specimens are being added
continually, so check back frequently to see what’s
new. We will have a separate listing of recently added specimens
to make this a bit easier.
I
have 8,900+ entries on the list (when we add the latest
additions) organized alphabetically by genera. You can search
the list for Family, Genus or Species. I have attempted
to use the most recent books on a particular area to check
identifications, etc., but am certain errors will occur.
For that I apologize. Some of the best books for certain
areas are quite old (i.e. American Seashells by Abbott for
North America and New Zealand Molluscs by Powell), but are
still the best general reference. As time permits I will
recheck each of the 600+ drawers of specimens and attempt
to update any out-of-date nomenclature. It will help if
I live to 100 years old!
When
your order is received, either by email or postal service
I will go over the list and pull out of my stock those which
are still available. Then an invoice will be sent to you
for approval, including shipping. As I am retired and this
is supposedly “a hobby”, I am often away traveling,
enjoying this beautiful part of southeast Asia, so your
inquiry might not receive an immediate response, other than
an automatic acknowledgement of receipt. I hope you will
be patient and understanding.
If
there is something that interests you, but no photo is available,
please email me and a photo can be provided via the Internet.
If a species is marked as sold, but you want to know when
I get another specimen put these items on a "want list"
and I will let you know when this species is again in stock.
Unfortunately
if you’ve discovered this website and think I feature
the shells of Thailand, you’ll be disappointed. I
do live in Thailand now, but am concentrating at this time
on organizing and listing the past accumulation of specimens
which included only a few from here. More will be added
as time passes and I hope to have a page dedicated to Thailand
mollusks soon.
I
look forward to hearing from you.
